A training workshop on the use of GeoRiskPH platforms was organized by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) for the Municipality of General Luna, Quezon on December 06-07, 2022 at the DOST-PHIVOLCS Main Office. The training aims to assist local government units (LGUs) to effectively understand and use GeoMapperPH web and mobile applications in building their exposure geodatabase, and other GeoRiskPH platforms as tools for a more efficient hazards and risk assessment, data collection, data sharing, and analysis in support of data-informed planning and decision-making. GeoMapperPH is an application designed for the easy collection of hazard, exposure, vulnerability, and coping capacity data of government agencies and local government units. All data gathered from the application will be directed to the GeoRiskPH system, which can be accessed, utilized, and updated later on. The two-day training program featured a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises on how to sign-in and use the GeoRiskPH Integrated Platform (GRIP) and the GeoMapperPH web and mobile applications. Participants were also introduced to the GeoRisk Philippines Initiative and other applications of GeoRiskPH such as HazardHunterPH and GeoAnalyticsPH. Moreover, a design thinking activity was conducted at the end of the session to identify strengths and opportunities to improve in GeoRiskPH's products. The applications' user-friendliness and helpfulness in data collection and disaster risk reduction management were both mentioned by training participants in their feedback. They recommended as well to have a policy for proper issuances of the references used in the applications and requested for follow-up training on upcoming new modules and app features. Through this learning-activity, the Municipality of General Luna was given an LGU account and real time database dashboard for hazard mapping and other LGU planning purposes. The institute strives hereafter to continually produce programs and develop technologies that push for advanced data-gathering for comprehensive preparedness & mitigation plans and encourage more collaborations with local government units to help achieve a disaster-resilient Philippines.
